Daily Habits to Create a More Abundant Life
Growing up in church, I would always hear that verse that said “I come that you might have life and have it more abundantly”. I didn’t really understand what that meant at the time. When I graduated college, I began a “not abundant” life. I chose to study a major that I didn’t enjoy because I really didn’t know any better. I believed, because this is what I was taught, that I had to choose a real career. Something that would make me money and my dreams and passions were not enough to do it. For years, I held on to this belief which led to me living a check to check existence, hating my job, and bouncing around from place to place while still not ever finding happiness. I’ve just recently begun to understand what abundance is and changing my habits to make sure that I’m operating in it. So let’s talk about abundance.
Abundance is more than just wealth or material possessions; it’s a state of mind and a way of living. I want to feel abundance in my health, in love, in my spirituality, in my relationships, I want it in every aspect of my life. Switching from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset takes consistent practice and it is a journey. Let’s talk about some things that you can do every day to achieve the abundance mindset.
- Gratitude practice: Start your day by expressing gratitude for the blessings in your life, whether it’s through journaling, prayer, or meditation. Focusing on the good in your life can help shift your mindset towards abundance.
- Positive self-talk. Pay attention to how you are speaking to yourself. We unconsciously think about so many things throughout the day. We need to take charge of them. Let’s replace negative self-talk with positive affirmations that reinforce your worth and capabilities.
- Exercise. Exercise is not only good for your body, but good for your mind. Consistent exercise increases your energy and helps to boost your mood. At least 30 minutes a day will achieve this.
- Learn new things. Take a course, read a book, watch informational videos, all of these things keep your mind growing and will also lead to new opportunities to use new skills.
- Volunteer. Helping others gives you a sense of fulfillment. Often what you give comes back to you multiplied.
- Set goals for the future. Setting specific, measurable, and achievable goals will help you reach your aspirations and, in doing so, you will create a new sense of purpose and abundance.
- Self-care. Last but certainly not least, do what is necessary to take care of you. Not just a once in a while spa day, but eating a good meal, watching a movie, meditation, hanging out with friends, anything that takes care of your body, mind, and soul.
If you want an abundant life, you must be intentional with your actions. By focusing on activities that promote gratitude, positivity, and growth, you will create this life. Be consistent, patient, and gracious to yourself while doing these and you will see the benefits of your habits.
