From Plate to Color Trend, Here Comes Kale

Pantone recently named their color trend predictions for Spring 2017, which included a new hue — Kale. If you’ve been on a hip 20-somethings Instagram feed or any salad bar since 2014, then chances are you’re well acquainted with kale as a trendy veggie. Now the hype has reached beyond food and kale as a color is finding its place in homes around the world.
While making the jump from your brunch plate to your interiors can be intimidating, it’s actually pretty simple to incorporate this foliage-based green into any space. Here are some suggestions for how to make it work.
Don’t Be Afraid to Go Big
The perk of a muted, earthy tone is that you can go big without overwhelming the space. Don’t be afraid to opt for something larger, like a sofa from Armen Living or even wallpaper from Mitchell Black. For those not fully convinced, Viteaux Originals has a variety of Kale-toned vintage carpets so you can test the trend with lower commitment.
Use the Elements
Pantone Color Institute’s executive director Leatrice Eiseman has described Kale as “taking a breath of fresh air” because of the way the color embodies our desire to connect with nature. Play off of this by pairing your something Kale with other furniture made from natural materials. Wood works especially well and fits a variety of preferences. For instance, dark-stained wood will introduce a more formal style, whereas unfinished pine or oak will give it a rustic vibe.
Compliment with Gold Accents
Because of how lush and rich Kale is, it also pairs well with a sparkling metallic. The organic feel of the green tone will beautifully contrast the sleekness of the gold and give the space a touch of elegance. Think golden HK Living light fixtures hanging over a Kale-colored wooden table or a plush Kale armchair sitting beside a gold leaf side table from Worlds Away.
