The evolution of The Economist’s social media team

I’m already a subscriber. I don’t have any way to engage with the Economist on editorial questions. I can send in letters that maybe will be published, but that’s not what I’m looking for.

If I have questions as to why an author comes to a conclusion on a certain topic, or if I even have information or evidence to the contrary from other news outlets, that the Economist didn’t state or debunk in it’s reporting, I, as a subscriber and reader, am lost.

I know it’s difficult. I for one want a news outlet to inform me, I don’t seek this much engagement, because: when will journalists do their jobs if they nonstop have to answer readers questions on their articles (questions on their jobs, as you stated is another thing, and you seem to have found venues like Quora to open up about)? But what I want is any possibility to challenge the author, when, for me, a topic isn’t reported on properly.

I, as a reader and subscriber, have to be able to assess why the Economist is or isn’t reporting certain facts/infos about a topic.

If there is a way to engage in this way already and I haven’t found it yet please let me know. If not, I would really like you to open up a way to discuss exactly this issues, if they arise.

PS: I mostly learn of the Economist’s endeavors in reader engagement on here, when you do such summaries as this one afterwards, yet, I always miss the opportunities to engage. I would love to hear from AMA’s, video-chats and what else you do beforehand directly from the Economist on your website or through your newsletters to which I’m subscribed to. I don’t use Facebook or Twitter (or Quora) actively, so if you announce any engagement sessions on there I cannot be informed, but I would take part in them as you don’t really seem to trust the opportunities of your own commenting system on to shape a form of interaction with your readers, as this (maybe?) would only benefit mostly readers who already have subscribed to the Economist.
