In reference to that quote, by reaching out to the FCC campsites in the SF Bay Area (there are several). From here it’s easy to talk to people and find other opportunities, which in the Bay area are ample: meetups, events, hackathons—I attended all of these. Local recommendations are a great way to find them, but most are also advertised online. Tech conferences would be another possibility. In the Bay and Seattle, coding bootcamps also happily throw events where they give tech talks or lectures for free. I attended several of these in SF and in Seattle saw Kyle Simpson talk for 2 nights at Dev Bootcamp. The education and networking resources in this respect in major tech cities are really quite tremendous.
