Humans are tenacious — as a species finding a path to survive. Yet, they often forget to nourish their creativity and imagination. Michael Bierut, a graphic designer and Yale professor, discovered a technique to change this behavior.

Starting in 2006, Mr. Bierut created an assignment for his students to create a project every day for 100 days. In 2011, it was covered in the magazine Good. It became a phenomenal Internet sensation with thousands of people around the world doing creative projects and posting them online. Although Mr. Bierut has passed the reins of the project to others, it continues to thrive.

#The100DayProject starts February 22 each year with every creative deciding on a project and announcing it to the world. Instagram and Facebook are the most common places; however, I believe it is in the spirit of creativity to post wherever one wants to post. I have chosen Medium as the home for my project.

Poetry is a wonderful way to express an idea, thought, or emotion. A haiku does that in a very succinct manner due to its form. Traditional Japanese haiku deals with a moment in nature or a spiritual insight within three lines and a syllable pattern of 5, 7, 5.

I wanted to add a bit more to my challenge. I follow an artist named Louise Gale. Her project involves her Chakra Color Affirmation deck, picking a card every day, and mandala painting. I’m using the color (or a shade of it) she picks every day in my haiku.

Let’s delve into the world of haiku and color together!
