My 2016 New Years Resolution

If I led my life with courage instead of fear, I would savor every moment. I would love the drape of wrinkles bunched around my grandmother’s smiling eyes. I would stop and finger paint silly things on the windows when my car greets me with frost on cold winter mornings. I would choose to appreciate, rather than glaze over the little details.

If I led my life with courage instead of fear, I would do all the things that tend to fall between the cracks of the daily grind. I would enjoy that cup of coffee — for here, please. I would handwrite thank you cards sealed with stickers, adorned with tweed. I would choose to put large efforts into small acts of kindness.

If I led my life with courage instead of fear, strangers wouldn’t be strangers. I would inquire about everyone for everyone has a story to tell. I would persist through the awkward lulls in conversations until we’ve hit a comfortable rhythm. I would boldly ask for phone numbers and take them on coffee dates around the city. I would choose friends over acquaintances.

If I led my life with courage instead of fear, I would still make mistakes. But instead of being met with disappointment, I would turn each instance into a teachable moment. I would take a stronger sense of self and confidence away from failed relationships instead of scars. I would improve upon my shortcomings instead of blaming them. I would choose learning experiences over regrettable ones.

If I led my life with courage instead of fear, I would let my voice be heard. I would pen my thoughts on paper and force honesty upon myself. I would share my words and be an active participant of my community. I would choose intimacy over isolation.

If I led my life with courage instead of fear, I’d approach the world as my playground. I would dare to venture beyond the perimeters of my comfort zone and take risks. I would eagerly embrace the unknown rather than fear it. I would choose to actively live life instead of letting it pass me by.

So my 2016 resolution? Choosing to lead my life with courage instead of fear. 🙂
