Ode to how you care. Thank you.
Mary Holden

I try to avoid current events in my poems. Politics and poetry rarely work well together. I care about Syria as a human, not a political problem. As a political problem, it may be beyond anyone’s control. As a human problem, that may be true as well. But, human suffering is a natural subject for art. And Syria is the best (and worst) trope for human suffering at the moment.
