The Memory Key by Liana Liu

Woot! Woot! This book was a hit for me! It kept me engaged the whole way, and I was dying to know how it was going to turn out. The Memory Key was science fiction, futuristic, and of course, had some good ole romance in it as well!
Summary:
Lora Mint, age 17, has just graduated and is now beginning her summer working at the beloved library again. She and her best friend, Wendy are hanging out when an elderly lady almost gets hit by a car, but Lora saves the day by snatching the woman up.
But Lora doesn’t leave the almost-accident unharmed. Her memory key, which is a small disc that the majority of society has injected in their brain to prevent Vergets disease (similar to Alzheimer’s), has been damaged. Because of the damage, Lora’s memory becomes clearer than normal. Her mother, who died in a car crash five years ago, is someone that was fading from her memory…but once her key is damaged, she remembers everything, even what happened the night before her mother’s death.
Will Lora be able to discover what really happened to her mother that night? Or was it truly just an accident and nothing more? Will she lose her friends if she continues her search and keeps hiding things from them?
My Opinion:
I was trying really hard to not give anything away! This book was so good!!! It was a mystery for sure, and I had to keep second-guessing who I thought was the one who was behind what happened to Lora’s mom, Jeannette Mint. It wasn’t at all who I thought it was gonna be, let me tell you. I loved how persistent and clever Lora was. She was not going to give up on her mother. She kept on looking for clues and didn’t stop even when it got risky.
The other characters who added to the story were well-developed and enjoyable. Wendy, her best friend, was someone I sort of disliked, but she also was always there for Lora and supported her, unless she disagreed. She was completely honest with Lora if she disagreed with her. Tim, Wendy’s older brother, was someone I would totally have a crush on if he only wasn’t fictional. Lora and he have some romance, which I was pretty happy about. She doesn’t let him in immediately, because they have a ton of history, as they did grow up together.
The book was ended pretty well. The author “landed the plane” successfully, as my English teacher would say! I was happy how it turned out. Lora learned that life isn’t always fair, but you have got to choose on how you decide to look at it.
Anyways, that’s all we’ve got for now! School is starting again soon, but don’t worry, we’ll still be trying to blog every once in a while!
