Tiwaz Rune Meaning and Symbolism
The Tiwaz rune is represented by a single vertical line with two horizontal lines extending from each side. This symbol references Thor’s hammer Mjölni rand also represents a spear or arrow. The name “Tiwaz” comes from an Old Norse word meaning “god,” and is associated with Tyr (or Týr), the god of war. In some stories, Tyr sacrificed his hand to bind the Fenris wolf during Ragnarok (the end of days).

Ancient Norse warriors often carried painted shields with this rune as a symbol of courage and honor in battle. The meaning behind this rune can be summed up as “justice through victory.” It symbolizes fairness, truth, strength, justice, courage, wisdom, and self-sacrifice. All these qualities are necessary for success in any undertaking — whether you are trying to win a battle or just trying to get ahead in life.
