What to do with Life?

People ask me what I am going to do with my life. Not that they usually care but just out of curiosity. I don’t have a problem with curiosity. In fact, I love curiosity. Keeps us as a species, alive. Anyway, back to the question at hand. Now, I have gone through my share of existential crises. So, I always answer that question by saying I don’t know. I, of course, have my passions but that doesn’t really mean I have to get a career which is related to that passion. In fact, from what I can tell ‘follow your passion’ is a pretty bad advice but more on that later. I think it is quite stupid that we think we have any control of the future. In most cases, you don’t get the ‘dream job’ but as it turns out, your future job might actually be better than the job you always wanted. I do know that I will probably do something related to computing in my future as I really don't know anything else but everything else is a mystery. Also, I find it funny that we give this decision to a 15 year old like me because as we all know teenagers make FANTASTIC decisions.

I mean it is kind of like asking a 10 year old what he wants to do with his life and he tells he wants to be a postman or something and you find that adorable because you know that by the time he is old enough to make the decision, he will choose either ‘doctor’ or ‘engineer’.

It is better to have goals. Short term and long term but it is stupid to decide what you are doing from such a young age.

What we really do to the young age is brainwash them. We have this idea that, we indians will go to school, become educated citizens and make this world a better place but that is hardly on anyone’s mind. People only think about getting into IIT after memorising a million formulae and then becoming “successful” which has just turned into another word for “rich”. One of the big reasons to hate this country.

So, in conclusion to what I am going to do with my life, I don’t know. But neither do you about YOUR life. The problem with the future is that it is unknowable (Determinism is a pretty much abandoned idea due to development in science). I mean, if Schrödinger is to be believed, in the future, I will be a doctor and a mathematician and a serial killer and a clown. I know there are too many “and’s” in the previous sentence but grammar has pretty much stopped existing with the advent of the internet anyway.

I think the above lines are enough to justify my position.

I will see you tomorrow AND after a million years.
