Book Summary:
In the fourth book in the Dark Verse series, we meet new characters, the energetic Zephyr and the grumpy beast of a man Alpha. We are taken out of the mafia city and placed in the jungle where we we come face to face with the human trafficking ring, the Syndicate. And get another piece of the puzzle that hopefully leads us to Tristan Caine’s missing sister. Alpha runs Los Fortis, knows the ins and outs and doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty. When a stranger arrives in his office knowing things from his past that she shouldn’t and hinting that they’ve met before even when he can’t remember this influences him to strike a marriage deal with her, with no actual desire to stick with this farce of a marriage. Of course, like always, things don’t go according to plan.
Non-Spoiler Review:
This book is the very definition of grumpy meets sunshine. Zephyr is as her nickname “rainbow” implies! She is a ball of energy and a breath of fresh air, so when she strikes a deal with the grumpy man that runs the city we readers know what's bound to happen. While we met both the strong and fierce women, Amara and Morana in the mafia city, we see something completely different in Zephyr. She is passionate and fun, with hair that changes colours and outfits that show off how curvy and confident she is in her own skin. Zephyr is a ball of love, and I enjoyed her sunshine in such a dark series. RuNyx made an amazing companion for Alpha. Someone to break him out of his shadows and show him what things like family and love could be like.
Spoiler Review:
When the two first decide to go into this arranged marriage, Zephyr is ecstatic and I liked the slow progression that the fight to make Alpha trust her and fall in love with her did to her mental health. Yet again, RuNyx does an exceptional job showcasing what the different sides of depression can look like and how love can eat away at our souls sometimes.
