ANDELA BOOT CAMP : DAY 3

Wow! Day 3 was a blast. Like seriously, it was a blast.

The day started off with the usual fun warm ups. We were divided into a group of two, and played a game of charades, where someone is given a particular word and they are supposed to act it out in a way that the others can guess what it is. I got to be the volunteer to act out the first word, which was ‘All female Andela Boot Camp’ (woop! woop! :-)) but it seems people didn’t quite understand why I chose to show Boot the way I did (people thought I kept trying to say booty, Lol.) They finally got it in the end.

The topic of the day was TDD — Test Driven Development, it was given as something to think about (Food For Thought) on Day 2. We didn’t quite focus on this however, as we ended up digressing and focusing on data structures, data types and implementation of some of the fundamentals of Object Oriented Programing (OOP) concepts — inheritance to be exact. It was so worth it though. OOP implementation has never been presented to me in such an easy to understand manner, its always made to seem like some complicated creature which my comprehension capabilities can’t even get close to begin to fathoming. Even though I have had the privilege of interacting with and trying to understand OOP way before Andela, the way the implementation of inheritance was presented on day 3 made my clouded understanding much less clouded. Not saying that I’m an expert now, but I’m at least five steps closer to being one after yesterday.

We also covered data types, data structures and arguments. I feel that I have quite a clear understanding of the first two, but I learnt something new when we covered arguments — how to use *args and **kwargs.

When we finally got to covering TDD, I was happy to know that I had quite a good understanding of it. It involves the practice of incorporating testing into your coding, in Python it makes use of the UnitTest class.

Overall, the day was great. It was also very fast paced, but I was able to keep up (Don’t mind my bragging, lol :-)). Looking forward to Day 4.
