Final Idea + Recipe

I wanted to keep my cookie simple- no hard to find ingredients, no special cooking utensils.

ingredients: 1 cup chocolate whey protein powder, 2 eggs, 2 bananas, 1 cup oat flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1/2 cup chocolate granola, 1 tablespoon coconut oil, raspberries (optional)

combine and stir/mash all ingredients in mixing bowl. preheat oven to 350* and pour mix into bake pan. bake for 20 minutes, checking occasionally to ensure proper cooking. remove. let cool for 10 minutes to allow cooking to continue. cut and serve

Idea Generation

For my idea generation I used mind mapping of different cookies that I enjoy eating. For the recipes constraints I only used ingredients that I had laying around my kitchen as I detest cooking in almost any form and have very limited cooking tools/supplies available. I researched online and tried to find something that I could tolerate attempting to make given my ingredient availability.

Idea 1 Test

I attempted to create a basic cookie that would be good to eat as a morning snack, or post-workout bite. I mixed eggs, a banana and protein powder into a mixing bowl. I then decided that it would be best to use a pyrex bake pan so I could see how it was baking. It took about 20 minutes to get firm and then I removed the pan and let it cool. Overall, it tastes tolerable.

Idea 2 Test

For my second idea, I wanted to create a breakfast bar cookie with granola, oatmeal, graham crackers, honey, eggs, and milk. It didn’t turn out as well. My two taste testers opted for the first product. They turned out more like crepes than cookies.

Iteration

For my iteration I changed quite a bit to idea One. I added oat flour and cane sugar, used only 2 eggs instead of four, added a tablespoon of coconut oil, added chocolate granola bits, and used more ripened bananas. I also added raspberries on top to add a sweet balance and it also adds a more appealing visual element to the cookie.

Timeline:

Wednesday: create blog post and begin brainstorming

Thursday: continue brainstorming and narrowing ideas through research

Friday: Gather ingredients for top three choices and begin baking

Saturday: narrow decision to top two cookies and refine recipes

Sunday: Final decision of cookie and recipe with input from friends/family

Monday: Blog post and bake final cookie to bring to class
