A quick glance at your articles and comments would seem to indicate that the topic of race dominates your sphere of interest as well. On top of that, your screen name is ‘Black Intellect’ and, yes, I read your piece with the same title.
Still, you make a good point. It’s definitely not a healthy thing. Maybe it’s because I get suckered in by all the prevalence of race based articles on Medium and the internet in general. Like it, or not, race does dominate the headlines these days. I wish it were not the case.
With regards to the ‘Black in the Midwest’ series, my annoyance stems from the belief of some of its authors that African Americans should be the demographic that is centered when referencing the term ‘Midwest.’ Why? The vast majority of Blacks did not migrate to the region until after WW1.
Were they the ones that created the industries that defined the Rust Belt at that point in time of the 20th century? No…they mostly worked as laborers in the lower rungs of the industrial ladder along side European immigrant groups such as the Irish and Italians.
