Apache Solr::

Apache Solr is an open source search server. It is based on the full text search engine called Apache Lucene. So basically Solr is an HTTP wrapper around an inverted index provided by Lucene.

Apache Solr is actually used in a lot of enterprise projects, public projects powered by Solr.Solr is also useful for scientific applications, such as a DNA search systems. Solr can also be used for completely different alphabets so that we can query nucleotide sequences — instead of words — to get the matching genes and determine which organism the sequence occurs in, something similar to Blast.
