Why it is better to use renewable energy sources

3 min readSep 22, 2022

Today we can see that our world depends on a stable source of energy. Every day we use a large amount of energy of all kinds. Energy sources like oil and gas are no longer so cheap and available, so we have to find new, better sources. In this article, we will present you the reasons why it is better to use renewable energy sources.

Numerous methods for creating renewable power

There is now so many ways we can create renewable energy, technology is constantly developing and now we are seeing solar power roads, solar power phone chargers and many other options.

Solar is already king

Solar is the top global energy technology in terms of new generation capacity added each year, with wind energy in second spot. Solar and wind energy are already huge industries globally, and employ 27,000 people in Australia — a doubling in just three years.

It is about prices

Solar energy is already affordable in many states and cities. A new report by Lawrence Berkeley Labs (LBL) shows how rapidly solar prices are falling. In its analysis, LBL shows that the average cost of installed solar photovoltaic was $6.20/watt for systems installed in 2010, falling 17 percent from 2009 and 43 percent below 1998. Prices fell an additional 11 percent from 2010 to the first half of 2011. Since 2008, panel prices alone have declined 61 percent, with 30 percent of this reduction happening this year. Large commercial rooftops systems are now being installed for less than $3 per watt DC — approaching the SunShot goals set by DOE only this year.

So in case you’ve missed it, “solar past does not equal solar present.” Solar is rapidly reaching the point where it competes with traditional energy on price — even without the kind of taxpayer subsidies that coal and natural gas have received for decades.

Renewable energy affects biodiversity

Another important factor to remember: renewable energy affects biodiversity. Building the infrastructure for renewable energy involves materials that need to be mined. That affects habitats which in turn affects biodiversity. Luckily, there are solutions. Making renewable energy more efficient reduces the number of materials needed. Lawmakers should also make sure fragile habitats are off-limits for mining. It is possible to get the materials needed without significantly harming the planet.

Gives your country energy independence

By using renewable energy you aren’t relying on fossil fueled power that comes from overseas countries that control the pricing. If more people switched to renewable energy, there may be a day when we no longer need to import fossil fuels from other countries.

Renewable energy creates jobs

Countries have known for years that green energy provides an economic boost. Job creation is a big reason for this. It takes a lot of people to build the infrastructure and many others to develop more efficient technology. According to data from 2019, there were about 11 million direct and indirect jobs in the global renewable energy field in 2018. This represents an increase from 10.3 million in 2017.
