“Why did the gender based death-threat video only get away with $50 fine?” A fiery speech by the Congresswoman Jin.

Congresswoman, Sun-mi Jin.

Regarding to the incident of fining only $50 on a male Youtuber whom stalked down on a Female Youtuber with a purpose of ‘murder’, the congresswoman from ruling party of South Korea dropped a remark.

The officer who measured $50 fine justified his decision saying ‘minor seriousness of the situation’. Despite these whole procedure evoke harsh criticism, none of the politicians publicized this problematic affair, except for the Congresswoman, Sun-mi Jin.

On 21st, Congresswoman Jin spoke an impassioned speech regarding to the affair at a conference with National Committee of Safety Administration, the police commissioner Chul-Seong Lee etc. as the attendees.

The video below contains the whole statement. If incapable of watching the whole video, there is a full text of the statement made by the congresswoman Jin. The answers towards Congresswoman’s questions by the police commissioner is yet to be known.

“A male Youtuber disclosed his intentions of murder if he receives $200 donation (Superchat) and live-streamed the whole process of tracking down on this female Youtuber. He also said even if it is not that female Youtuber, he’d still kill the tenant if she is a woman. The man was arrested after the police report that was made by the viewer who were trembling in fear, but how did you face the issue?

Why is this case titled as ‘Pornography’? You seriously have to be concerned about this issue. This man announced his intentions of murder and intrusion, and the viewer donated money, which conspires to commit murder. These actions on victim’s perspective, are an absolute death threats, and preliminary plot.

When my office made a phone call with the police department, the ignorant perception appeared similarly. The police department quoted “That’s the common characteristics of Youtube”, and expressed their insensitive attitude through perceiving this incident as just an internet prank.

Throughout the extreme changes of the process, the fears and anxiety over public safety that women have to experience is continuously increasing, the ideas and ways of violence is diversifying outrageously. Rather than filling a vacuum in public peace, the penalty imposition was only $50, which is equal to dumping a cigarette-butt on the road.

At least he should have been charged and confirmed, I do not understand the reason you sent him back home? Unacceptable. As you said to yourself Commissioner, You shall inspect this case all over again. You must reinforce the investigation.”
