Really sad stuff. The democratization of discourse caused by Twitter is unfortunately a double-edged sword that we, more than the West, have to suffer. We need numbers to make the powerful hear word. But as our numbers swell, the quality of reasoning takes a bigger nosedive.

Ideally, someone who puts as much effort and continued study into the opinions they publish online shouldn’t be involved in the same convo as someone who can’t define ‘ad hominem’. It’s better for the public to watch the most skilled proponents of each position go at it in debate, and then make their decisions. Minimal time wasted in reaching the core of an issue. I thought you’d gotten quieter on Twitter, and I may still be wrong but this seems to explain that. Hopefully the trade-off is that as your tweets come slower, their weight will displace more of the mud-water that passes for political discussion.

(Btw, it shouldn’t be this way, but I think inter-ethnic marriages will be expedient in some yrs as we improve in arguing for the direction of the whole nation, while parrying those who only listen to hear the speaker’s surname).
