So you’re planning to go out for a bite to eat with the family in town. If you’re anything like us, you’ll have some tried and tested places to go, where you know you’ll be welcomed with the kids, and that the kids will eat at least something from the menu.

Bournemouth Mini Bites has found some awesome places for you to try with the kids, and hopefully, like us, you’ll expand your repertoire of eateries in and around town and have some great new experiences along the way.

It’s all about encouraging families to eat together, so hopefully this will inspire you to get out and get eating…together.

Today’s restaurants are brought to you by the letter A…

  1. Alcatraz Caffe — In the heart of Bournemouth town centre, this small local Italian chain, is very family friendly, as Italians tend to be. There is a kids menu as you’d expect, lots of pasta and pizza, expect a warm welcome if you’re taking the kids.

2. Aruba Restaurant & Bar — The jewel in the crown of the pier approach, although many people may not realise that it’s there. A very very family friendly place with a children’s play zone, often with specific activities for the kids, such as balloon making — some healthier choices on the menu.

3. The Ark — In the heart of Poole Park, this is a great place for kids to explore, eat and play. There’s a huge soft play area, ice rink and outdoor play area, not to mention the whole of Poole Park on the doorstep. A good selection of fresh food, and guaranteed to wear the kids out!

4. Arcado Lounge — Found on Christchurch’s high street, this quirky cafe has a decent offering for kids, some green stuff on the menu, as well as a really nice vibe. Worth checking out if you’re in the area.

5. Ask ItalianSmack bang in the middle of the new ‘eating district’ in Bournemouth town centre is Ask Italian. The name speaks for itself, yes it’s a big chain, and yes it’s also incredibly family friendly. Lots of healthy choices here for the bambinos!

6. Arbor Restaurant — I was delighted to discover this fabulous restaurant does actually cater for children, and the kids menu sounds just as amazing as the adults. We haven’t yet tried this one out, but am hoping to be visiting soon! It’s is slightly hidden away in Lansdowne, so day visitors to Bournemouth are unlikely to stumble across this little gem.

7. The Angel — This delightful pub can be found a little way outside Bournemouth on the edge of the historic market town of Wimborne. Serving really great ‘pub’ food, with some lovely healthy options for kids such as the kids mezze and the sustainably sourced fish goujons. Definitely worth a venture out here, kids will be happy with the play area outside.

8. All Things NiceThis independently owned cafe in the middle of Charminster High Street offers some lovely homemade food, particularly if you have a sweet tooth!

9. Al Calamaro — This town centre Italian can be found along Westover Road, walking distance from the beach. It has a good selection of pizzas and pastas for the kids. Worth venturing up the hill after a day at the beach.

We will be working our way around Bournemouth, uncovering other little gems and sharing them with you.

We’d love to hear about your experiences eating at any of these places, plus any other great places that you have discovered while eating out with your Mini Bites in Bournemouth.
