I Lost Weight While Eating Normally

I’m only 25, but I’ve struggled with my weight for most of my life.

At 22, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, which meant pain and severe digestive problems that required meds to control. In March of 2019, when my symptoms were finally under control (and I could digest food without being in pain again), I was so happy that I began to overeat — and I gained around 30 pounds in a little over a year. Throughout college and after I started working, I kept putting on pounds.

By the time I got married in October 2020, I weighed 50 pounds more than I’d been when I started college. I enjoyed my wedding day, of course, but when I looked back at myself in the photos, I felt disappointed and sad that I hadn’t lost weight beforehand. In that moment, I vowed to take back control of my life.

I haven’t just lost weight — my health has also improved: I now take fewer medications for my Crohn’s disease, I’m able to walk up and down the stairs without getting short of breath, and I no longer need my emergency inhaler. I also feel like I have more strength and energy. I’m the happiest and healthiest I’ve ever been, and I feel like I’m finally back in control of my life.
