In this article by the Chicago Tribune portrayed many aspects of fear. They did this by giving information on Chicago shootings. They didn’t give many details on what exactly happened in many of the altercations. This makes the reader more fearful to the situations that are going on in Chicago. I believe that this article portrayed many of the aspects of fear that we learned in class.

To begin with, this article is considered soft news because of the fact that it is crime oriented, but when combined with the proximity of where these crimes take place makes this article give off fear. Many of these take place in West Englewood neighborhood. This gives off more fear to the people that live near where these shootings take place. When people read this article, they will be afraid to go near any of these neighborhoods where many shootings take place. Also many parents would be scared of these shootings when they read this article because of this one shooting that occurred near a school. According to the article four people got out of a minivan started to open fire half a block down from a squad car parked that was outside a school. The superintendent was forced to lock down the school. Because of this parents would be fearful for their child’s life because of how close the shooting was to the school. Also this article doesn’t give any motive to why these shootings happened nor were the suspects found. This gives off fear because these shootings seem to come from no where and apparently for little to no reason. According to the article a 19 year old got into an argument with someone and was shot when he turned around. Because of this the reader feels as if there isn’t a reason as to why people are getting shot and may fear that if they are in these violent neighborhoods, they might get hurt.

All in all, this article shows many aspects of fear that is used in the media to create fear in viewers or readers. This allows the media to have control over our emotions or the way we feel towards a certain topics. This is also how media controls our perception of things and it is important that we as consumers consume different types of media so we’re not victims to ignorance.
