I got scammed by my neighbor. Whether he was a sociopath or a psychopath, I cannot say and I do not want to find out. Finding out would involve interacting with the man again. The comments you describe of the confident acceptance of a “thankyou” when there was nothing to be able to thank for sort of points to that psychopath/sociopath line. I wonder if in their brain they are able to absolutely believe that they were telling you the truth….
Startups need that kind of irrational belief. Today it is even more necessary than before. If you don’t have that at least slightly irrational belief that what you are doing is profound, selling it becomes challenging.
I don’t want to defend the actions of your executives. I just understand how easy it is to get trapped into the believing that you just need another month. “IF we can just get to next month, the revenue will be there!” and you do things to make it get there.
I was involved with a startup for awhile. It still has lots of potential. The CEO is still trying to get deals closed to make it happen. He is still positive about the chance of a deal happening. If he isn’t positive, IT WILL NOT HAPPEN.
If you get pragmatic, it definitely will not happen.
