That said, it’s a little weird to completely ignore both the long term impact of scheme changes (west coast, spread, charlie weir, yadda…) and the more obvious impact of officiating changes. Sure, you could do a whole series of articles on pass-game rule changes, but at the very least give a mention to the Curtis Jackson rule, the 1994 downfield contact rule, and the 2004 decision to start enforcing it, no? 7–7 matters, but officiating is pretty obviously the biggest single factor.
