There’s a lot more that goes into a successful band than just playing great shows. Effectively marketing and promoting your band will be crucial to your ultimate success. However, a lot has changed in the music industry over the last decade, and strategies that may have worked just a few years ago may not necessarily work now. Here are a few effective band marketing strategies to help get you started.

Start with a Killer Website

At the center of your brand’s marketing strategy should be an awesome website. This is the place to which all of your other marketing efforts should drive visitors and fans. It’s a central hub, completely controlled by you, that you can use to attract new fans, keep current fans updated on shows and band outings, release new material, and even sell merchandise and tickets.

Have a Consistent Email Newsletter

Having a solid email list will be a huge asset as you work on marketing and promoting your band. It’s a great low-cost way to stay in touch with your most engaged fans and followers. It’s a good idea to use an email marketing software program like MailChimp or Constant Contact, so you know that you’re meeting all of the necessary email marketing regulations.

Embrace Streaming Services

As a band just starting out, chances are you aren’t going to make a ton of money by having your music on a streaming service like Spotify or Pandora. However, these streaming services are still a great way to get your music out to tons of potential new listeners and fans that would not otherwise have been introduced to your band.

Have a Focused Approach to Social Media

There’s no doubting the powerful effect social media can have on promoting your band. However, trying to manage too many different social media platforms can get overwhelming, and may ultimately make your strategy less effective. Take some time to determine which social media communities your fans utilize the most, and then focus your efforts on building a following on those particular platforms. This will help ensure you’re getting the most out of your social media efforts.
