a requiem

Photo by Jeremy Bishop on Unsplash

the way air bubbled up ahead
of me, through the fractures
of moonlight, so peaceful in the deep

drifting off alone, I found a place to rest
in the arms of the ocean
the pressure in the wake
underwent this archaic ache

I’m not giving up here,
maybe I’m just giving in
for a moment, some time
for peace

when this water takes me
out to the rifts
don’t forget me
don’t forget everything

she will deliver me
to the arms of the shore
maybe I’ll find you there
with weeds in your hair
a song in your fingertips
and saltwater skin
