Jerry Nadler & Nydia Velazquez need our help this Tuesday.

Late June is an unusual to vote (especially after we had the Presidential primary in April): but tomorrow, Tuesday, June 28th, there is a Democratic Primary for U.S. Congress.

Now more than ever, it’s critical that we have strong, progressive Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives. Two of the best — Jerry Nadler and Nydia Velazquez — are under attack and need our help. So I hope you will join me in working to Get Out the Vote on Tuesday.

1. Volunteer: If you have a few hours, please sign up to volunteer for Jerry by e-mailing atterbury@jerrynadler.com, or for Nydia here.

2. Make sure your friends & neighbors go out to vote. Very few people are aware of the election. So send them an e-mail, and post on social medial.

3. Vote on Tuesday! You can find your poll-site here.

Here’s why I believe it’s so important:

Jerry Nadler (10th District): “fearless and principled liberal”

Never afraid to stand up for what is right, Jerry Nadler has built an incredible record championing progressive causes that advance economic and social justice. The New York Times rightly called him a “fearless and principled liberal” when they endorsed him last week. He’s also one of the smartest and most effective. Jerry is one of the great champions on civil liberties, women’s health, LGBT rights, 9–11 health and compensation, and gun control. He’s a leading advocate for transportation and infrastructure. I’m proud to call him a mentor.

Jerry has been targeted because of his vote in support of the Iran deal (a vote I supported, and which he explained here, one of the most thoughtful analyses of the deal). For that vote (despite his long-standing support of Israel) he has been hit with vile campaigning that has questioned his Judaism and even mocked his weight — and spent big money to do it. We need to counter those attacks, and make sure we keep Jerry in Congress.

Nydia Velazquez (7th District): “La Luchadora”

Nydia has long served as a powerful voice for our neighborhoods, representing an incredibly diverse melting pot of neighborhoods in Queens, Manhattan, and Brooklyn. She has worked hard to protect low-income families, preserve affordable housing, support small business, make government more accountable, and defend women’s rights. Closer to home, she’s been instrumental in efforts to clean up the Gowanus Canal, and help our communities recover after Hurricane Sandy.

The LLC’s and dark money groups that are working against Nydia have tried hard to smear her name, running a negative campaign, fueled by nasty mailers and unfair attacks. And there have also been deeply troubling irregularities at the NYC Board of Elections, where Latino voters in Nydia’s district were disproportionately removed from the voter roles.

Please join me in supporting both of these great Members of Congress. Vote & volunteer on Tuesday. And send a note to your neighbors today.
