There’s No Such Thing As Ugly

Ugly: unpleasant or repulsive, especially in appearance….unsightly, bad-looking, beastly, deformed, appalling, hideous….This is the definition and the synonyms for ugly. The idea that anyone would label another human being as such is beyond my comprehension let alone that we allow ourselves to look in the mirror and use it to describe ourselves.

It’s true that most of us will never grace the cover of Vogue or make the top hottest people of 2014 list however that does not mean we are ugly. As human beings we should stop giving out labels and embrace ourselves as creatures of God, unique, priceless and beautiful. Insead of cowering in front of the mirror and wishing we looked differently we need to see ourselves as God sees us. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we need to behold ourselves and others as God beholds us. We are his creation.

We need to open our eyes wide and see the world for what it really is rather than slapping on it labels. I have read articles on women burned with acid afraid to show their faces for fear of being called ugly but with beautiful empowering courage they fulfilled their dreams and they are beautiful. It is true that some may call them ugly but that is because they are too scared to let the world in. They hide behind that word, shoving away human connection. They sheild themselves from having to reach inside their souls and grow. They fail to understand their own worth and that is why they fail to understand the worth of others. So as humans we need to unity and add back the humanity in the human enviroment we live. We need to behold our own worth and forget about the labels. We need to look in the mirror and behold the child of God that we are and were born to be and thank God for the body and life that he has given us. Instead of criticizing his incredible creation we need to realize the unique and breathtaking beauty around us and thank him for the miracle of each day.
