Solution Planning represents the set of opportunity phase activities to define the solution we will deliver to meet the client’s business need together with a delivery approach that is deliverable — this balances winnability with deliverability. Solution Planning:

  • Begins with the Initialize and Prepare activity in which the Solution Architect reviews the available information to understand client expectations and objectives; mobilizes a team to shape the solution; and defines the scope, approach, and timelines for all solution planning activities.
  • The core is an iterative process to develop the Solution Plan by confirming scope; assessing capabilities and constraints; defining the solution blueprint; defining the delivery strategy; obtaining delivery center support; and there should be continual feedback through the process with the stakeholders to ensure understanding and agreement among all parties.
  • Validate and Transition validates that the Solution Plan and related work products are consistent and complete; reviews the final artifacts including the Solution Plan with internal stakeholders; with additional feedback from the client can lead to further iterations leading to winning and contracting the deal. When we win a deal there must be an effective transition to the Delivery team during Delivery Mobilization.
