Huobi announced today the launch of its own token based on the standard ethereum ERC-20.
A duplicate Huobi (HT) token, the new release is scheduled to begin on January 23 with a limited offer of 500 million. According to the announcement, 300 million HT (60 percent) will be sold to users within 15 days, leaving the remaining 40 percent for the platform, command incentives and user incentives.
Huobi said the launch token is “not an initial coin offering (ICO).” Instead, 300 million HT will be sold at a discount to users who purchase the Huobi Pro payment package using a tether (USDT), a cryptography token linked to the US dollar.
According to Leon Lee, the founder of the Huobi Group, the news marks the last step taken by Huobi to recover after the business was seriously affected by China’s pursuit of domestic exchanges. Since then, he has switched to an over-the-counter (OTC) trading model and targeted overseas markets.
The ultimate goal, according to Lee, is to turn HT into an asset that connects users on Huobi exchanges in Japan, South Korea and the United States in the future as the company expands overseas.
Meanwhile, HT will also be available for trading, since the company’s exchange platform will offer a USDT, BTC or ETH trading pair with a token. Addressing potential concerns about price volatility, Huobi will buy out HT at a market price each quarter with 20 percent of net profit over the same period.
