Quite the response. Forced me to write a reply in OneNote :D

Hi Chris, thanks for the super thoughtful comment. Glad to have your contrary thoughts, no offense taken ;)

  • Your point is very strong that “making something customers actually want will fix itself” sounds backwards. I would recommend strongly against starting a business to actually start a business. Yes, as you said, it starts with the fever of a powerful idea. I would even suggest going beyond idea and reframing it as a strong customer pain.
But if you want to start a business, do it with people. Not on your own. What you often find is that people come up with a solution, and then find out that they were all wrong about their initial ideas. It’s 100X easier to re-iterate when you’re with a team than if you’re on your own. That’s the main point I wanted to make.
  • I edited the piece as you suggested, reordering hipster hacker hustler :)
  • Credits for hipster hacker hustler go to someone else, but this combination has been used so often that I don’t know who to credit it to. I think it works well :)
  • Thanks a lot for your support! I don’t think this was a failure, as I think the only time you fail is when something doesn’t work out and you didn’t learn. For example, I failed twice for my driver’s license, and still don’t have it. Oh well.

Thanks again, enjoy your Sunday!
