1984 in Georgia
I live in Atlanta, GA in a gated apartment community called Westside Heights in West Midtown. Lately we have had dozens of break-ins and my Car a 2014 Tesla Model S has been the victim of 1 breakin and and another incident involving some vandalism this past Monday night. In the first incident my FN FNS .40 Caliber handgun was stolen from it’s out of sight spot in my car, along with other valuables.
Yesterday I went to speak with the property manager Tasha Scott about what’s being done at least to at least narrow down where it’s coming from. Well, she told me that it’s a high crime around here and they are not responsible or liable for any damages I’ve incurred, which I understand. Me and her got into it over where their limitation of liability ends and where neglect begins. I have been pointing out security holes in the properties access control points since mid June. After she informed me that I have no right to legal action against them in the matter, this made me kinda ticked off because I know I can at anytime take legal action on anyone. This ticks me off mostly because I’m aware that not everyone knows what I know, and a lot of people would have have been detered away thinking and feeling powerless to a bold face lie.
After cooling off a bit my libertarian inner voice began to speak. I have the right to assemble, I have the right to bear arms, and if I use my right to bear arms in protest of “Nothing being done” about the crime. I’m just protecting myself for one, I mean the lady did just do her very best to get the point of high crime in the area in my head, and say they aren’t responsible for my safety. But not only am I protecting myself, but I’d also be protect everyone else in this community, their property, and all of our general since of security.
I put the tactical sling on my AR-15 put it on my shoulder and took my Bulldog Winston for a walk to the backside of the property. I knew it might scare a few people, I knew a few of those people would complain, and I knew most importantly I was making a point and people complaining would only further boast that point.
Our Resource officer stopped yesterday to make sure everything was ok, which it was, and to let me know that the property has BANNED the possession of firearms in all common areas. The only exception would be individual dwellings and transporting firearms to and from vehicles, otherwise I’d be breaking the law if I have it on me.
THIS IS OBSURD! It’s a high crime area and now I can’t carry myfirearm? What if Winston has to go out late at night or something? What about my rights as a individual? I might not be able to carry for a little while, but this isn’t over. I seriously think this needs to heard by the Georgia Surpreme court. I think the State Legisislation needs to look at housing communities differently in terms of allowing them to do this to a individual.
This is very surprising to me honestly. Mr. John A. Echols CEO of the Worthing Company has actively donated to GOP candidates for at least the last 2 decades.
Lastly I’d like to address the people that were startled by my actions, I’m not sorry. I didn’t do anything wrong. I do want every single one of you to know I would NEVER harm another human being unless I was defending myself and others from immediate harm.
