The best asset Barnes offers is versatility. The biggest knock on him has long been that he’ll never be a primary scoring option, but until the 7-foot German who’ll be suiting up next to him decides to hang them up, he’ll never have to be. Instead, Carlisle — one of the best at reconfiguring his schemes and rotations to maximize the talent on his roster — will explore all the ways Barnes can fill in the gaps on offense and defense on a team that has a lot of holes.

It might not be the smoothest transition to start. Harrison Barnes is a much different player than Chandler Parsons, the player he’s replacing.
