A Cast Recording, a New Play, And “Let It Go!”

Hello, my theatre loving friends! This week we had some pretty cool announcements made to the theatre community. It seems that lately we’ve had such exciting events and news. So let’s dive into what excited me the most from this week!

The cast of “Fiddler on the Roof” in the recording studio.

NUMBER 1: The Fiddler on the Roof cast recording is already being recorded! When I heard the news that they were going to be releasing a new cast recording I was a little surprised. I didn’t think that they would release a new recording — but, they are, and I am so excited! I’ve heard great reviews from this revival, and I’ll be able to experience this show through my headphones.

NUMBER 2: So most of us had to read To Kill a Mockingbird in high school. This was one of my favorite books that I read in high school, and I have seen this story as a play. Writer, Oscar winner, and Golden Globe winner Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, Steve Jobs) has written an adaption for the stage of this beloved book. The reception of this announcement has been well received, and it looks like that this story will be well welcomed. I am intrigued to see how Sorkin has adapted the book into a stage production, but I have strong faith that it will not be disappointing.

NUMBER 3: “Let it go! Let it go!” This beloved song that was sung by children and adults everywhere in the year 2013 will now be headed to the stage! When Frozen first came out there were immediate rumors that it would be adapted to become a stage production. Makes sense since it was such a huge success. I hadn’t heard any news of it recently so I believed that it wasn’t going to happen, but yet again, I was surprised with such great news! This story is going to be making its premiere in Denver in August of 2017. It will then head over to Broadway in the spring of 2018. So the wait is not a whole lot longer.

I was thinking of whom I would cast in the roles of the main characters, and I came up with a cast that I think would do an extraordinary job.

My Frozen on Broadway Cast:

Anna: Laura Osnes

Elsa: Kate Shindle

Kristoff: Kyle Dean Massey

Hans: Josh Young

Olaf: Josh Gad (Of course!)

What are your thoughts on this week’s theatre news? Who would you want to cast for Frozen?
