Judging from the title, it sounds like a BS article about nothing. While that may apply to some people’s thinking, there are lots of similarities between the two professions. Let’s break it down:

1. Hustlers

Both are grinders who stay on top of the game 24/7. Though their industries may differ, they push their limits both mentally and physically to reach their American Dream. They constantly have The Hunger for More, understand that enough is Never Enough, and know how to market themselves to their consumers. As you can see from the investors on Shark Tank who can retire at any time or the entrepreneurs that have put their lives on the line, they know there is no such thing as having enough money, and will continue fishing for more. It’s similar to rappers creating their own record labels or finding the next big star. In both scenarios, they know the game, and how to reach their audience.

2. Rags to Riches

The ones that gain the most attention are the ones with a saddening story that hit rich by either luck, skills or combo of both. News media loves these stories as shown on Techcrunch, XXL, Kings, Venturebeat and more, and so does their audiences. Although not all startups and rappers have a dark past, the most interesting backgrounds seem to hit it mainstream.

3. Only a few make it

There are literally hundreds of startups popping up inspiring others to break corporate world, and big named rappers giving aspirations to the younger generations. Yet only a small portion of startups and rappers ever hit it big, or see mainstream success. Media glamorize these entities, and don't the show the many failures that have occurred unless you're in the dirt with them. On top of it, many of entrepreneurs/rappers fall out of the scene due to the fickleness of consumers, and soon forgotten in mere months. It’s a brutal world no matter which field they walk.
