Retrospective of the 2D Galaxy Shooter
Objective: Share my experience with creating the 2D Galaxy Shooter game in Unity.
Completing a project, big or small, always brings its own bittersweet reward. I love the feeling of completing it, but then it feels like something is missing when I don’t have to work on it.
Going through the first course for GameDevHQ has taught me a lot about Unity, 2D game development, and really gave me more confidence in myself than I had when I started.

Looking back on everything from using the GetComponent method, to creating a homing missile, I see how much went into this small game and I am amazed.

I take away from the first course a sense of accomplishment that I have not been wasting my time. Also I am taking away a few more tools for my toolkit.
At the time of writing this article, I’m about to publish my game on Itch.io, one of the tools that I learned in this course was about the Aspect ratio in the Unity player. The issue that I faced just now while having to publish it, was a tool in my toolkit and a very easy fix.
Looking back however I think I have done the best with what I know. I wouldn’t (at this time) change anything. I’m sure as years progress on and my Unity experience grows I will look back and see a lot of better ways things could have been done, but all in all I think it was a good experience.
Thank you all so much for following me on this journey. I look forward to seeing where the next road lies and how much better I’ll become!
