My imaginary friend (that motivates me)
Today I’ve got an imaginary friend. Interestingly, his name is the same as mine. But he is 5 years older than me.
Before your suggest me seeing a doctor, just read how it happened.
It started with this TED talk: http://www.ted.com/talks/daniel_goldstein_the_battle_between_your_present_and_future_self. In case you don’t want to click the link, it’s about tools that help people visualise future selfs and make decisions that are better in a long term.
So I’ve had an idea: why do I need a tool for that if I can have future self right beside me. Imaginary, of course. But it’s still me. No tool can simulate future me better than myself.
I’ve decided to conduct an experiment: whenever I don’t know what to do right now or not sure whether to do one thing or another, I’ll ask imaginary 5-years older me: what he thinks I should do? You know, looks like he has much more answers than me. No wonder, he’s older and wiser. So I trust him to make decisions.
Looking forward to see where following his guidance will lead me.
