I Don’t Do Those Things
About 4 years ago I almost missed an opportunity. I almost missed it because I wasn’t looking for anything at the time and I certainly didn’t think I needed anything else in my life. I was making good money as a teacher and the director of latchkey in my school district, so why did I want to add more to my plate? I was a busy guy, and as far as I could see, things looked great.
After denying the opportunity a few times, I finally decided to take a look at the business plan, not so much out of curiosity, but basically to get my friend to stop asking me about it over and over. My wife and I watched a video that provided us with 100% of the information.
That moment changed everything.
I did a complete 180 and jumped all over it. Why did I not look before? What was it that stopped me from just seeing if it was for me or not? Why was I so stubborn?
Oh yeah, because my mindset was one that thought, “I don’t do those things.”
Little did I know that at the time, my secondary income was about to disappear. The latchkey position would become a full time gig and I would have to give up teaching to do it. I considered it, but it would not be a good financial move. So luckily, this came into my life.
By the time I was told that the job was no longer mine, I was ready to walk away from it. You see, I had replaced that active income already with a passive income.
Now my hours are normal. I don’t have to stay at the latchkey program for 3 hours after my day ends anymore. I don’t have to arrive 2 hours before my day begins anymore. I don’t have to balance the second job during my first job anymore. I get home early, I can coach 3 teams, and I’m bringing in more money than I was before.
MORE MONEY and LESS HOURS. Who knew that was a possibility??
I still teach and I love being a teacher. But I am with my family more because I’m not working extra hours. And isn’t that what it is all about?
So are you open minded to new opportunities? Or, like I was, are you closed off because you “don’t do those things?”
