Sifu Storylines & Character analysis (4): Kuroki (part 1)
Kuroki’s story is my favorite in the Sifu game, and I can even say that the idea of writing this review series was born from the story of Kuroki. In the story of Kuroki’s life, the game puts a large number of narrative elements into the scene. It can be said that it really applies the environmental narrative to an artistic extent. Similar to Sean, the sifu does not tell every detail about Kuroki, so the story is still part of my subjective extrapolation.
I want to tell a detailed Kuroki story, so I decide to write it in two parts: the first part will focus on Kuroki’s past in Japan, while the second part will focus on Kuroki’s story after he came to China. This review will contain lots of images and will be long, but I believe Kuroki’s story will make you unforgettable.
【The Cursed Twins, The Past Of Kuroki】:
Unlike others, Kuroki is not Chinese, she comes from the other side of the sea — Japan. Kuroki was born into a Japanese gangster family, along with her twin sister. Kuroki and her sister are both twin sisters and playmates who grew up together, making them close enough and had no secret between them in their childhood. But at this time, they do not know that this may be their last joy in life, because their fate may be just like their hair colour- a black and a white, could never be compatible with each other.
In Japan, the operation and management of the gang is extremely strict, and for the successor of the gang is even more harsh, their father forced them to start training martial arts when they were 8 years old, and the gap between the twins has also arisen. Her Sister is very talented even at a young age, she is highly skilled in martial arts, quite loved by their fathers. But on the contrary, Kuroki in Martial arts is mediocre, also has never defeated his sister, her father was even harsher on Kuroki, each defeat will lead to a penalty stand to Kuroki for an hour. Perhaps since then, the sisters are no longer the closest friends, but the closest enemies. Kuroki was only filled with the idea of winning over her sister. Of course this is only what Kuroki’s thought, her sister never thought about it this way. Kuroky challenged her over and over, but only resulted in defeat, repeatedly defeated, she just felt bitter sweet. Happiness is naturally due to the sister’s love for kuroky, and pain is watching Kuroki fall again and again, never succeeding but always trying.
This cycle of fighting training continued until the day came of ages. In Japan, a gang can only have one heir, so it was inevitable that the final fight would start, and the winner would become the new leader of the gang. Her sister was indifferent to the leader position, while Kuroki was determined to win, too eager to prove herself, too eager to let everyone know that her name was Kuroki. But everyone who was there that day knew that there was no way Kuroki could win over her sister, who was bound to be the next leader of the gang.
The plot of the battle is also as expected,the white hair sister has been suppressing the black hair Kuroki, but the sister can not go heavy on Kuroky, she hopes that Kuroki herself admitted defeat, because she doesn’t want to hurt her. But by this time Kuroki had already gone a little crazy, she heard people around there shouting the name of sister, Kurory’s mood became more and more violent and angry, at this time Kuroki has long been not the closest twin sister, but the most hateful enemy. After a long time, the white hair and the black hair have been battling for even 30 strokes,both sides are storing power to prepare for the final blow, the crowd noise also reached the maximum, but with a gust of wind whistling past, the crowd instantly quiet ……
The crowd was briefly quiet as they watched the red blood drip down onto the white hair, but with the sister’s fall, the noise of the crowd reached its peak again, only this time the name finally changed to Kuroki. That’s the way it is in the Japanese gang, the strongest are the strongest, the weakest deserve no voice. And who cares about sisterhood?
Kuroki realised what had happened. Helpless and confused, Kuroki was the first one to look at her father, and this time she finally saw him smiling and clapping for her. Kuroki looked at her father and begged him to save her sister, but her father just started to talk to the rest of the gang about Kuroki’s excellence, as if the person he had been praising for 18 years was Kuroki, not the sister. Looking at the cold-blooded father, Kuroki froze, she had long lost the joy of victory, at this time she only felt the world turn upside down, incomparably helpless and pitiful, just like when she made a mistake as a child, but did not know what to do.
But at that moment, the sister spoke, she touched the top of Kuroki’s hair with her right hand and gently said “Kuroky, you have finally grown up”, and then fell straight down. How could Kuroki let her sister fall to the ground like that? She rushed to catch her sister, and had been shouting sister’s name, but no matter how she shouted, she finally did not return a voice. Kuroki’s tears were dropping more than a rainstorm downward, this may be her first tears in 18 years, but tears and blood mixed with the taste, so that the air is also more than a trace of blood and sadness ……
After that day, Kuroki could hardly sleep. Every time she closed her eyes, the scene of her sister would repeatedly come back to her mind and linger. Over time, Kuroki began to hallucinate due to the guilt she felt for her sister; she felt like Kuroki at times, but seemed to be her sister at other times ……
Although Kuroki’s mind was somewhat blurred at this point, she never forgot her father’s coldness and selfishness. she felt that if it was not the father forced the two sisters for the martial arts training, they would not have become enemies; she felt that if the father did see the real Kuroky, she would not have carried such hatred for her sister; she felt that if the father helped the sister at that day, the sister would not have died in her arms just like that, all of this is blamed on their own father. So she picked up a knife on one rainy night and went to her father’s room ……
After killing her father with her own hands, Kuroki found that her guilt towards her sister was not relieved, and far from feeling the thrill of revenge, what followed was an endless emptiness and pain. In order to avoid the gang’s pursuit, Kuroki chose to flee Japan, the land of her own heartbreak, and her destination is China, across the ocean.
One day when she was eating on a street in China, she suddenly heard a martial artist say to the person at the next table that “water has the power to set us free, and water is the key to rebirth”. These words enlightened her, and she believed that the power of water might help her get rid of this endless trouble and pain, so after the martial artist left, Kuroki ran after him ……
