We Should Be Talking!

Let’s talk climate change. It’s happening, there’s scientific evidence that it’s happening, but there’s one problem: we aren’t talking about it.

Sure, here and there it gets mentioned in speeches at fundraisers or rallies. Gov. Martin O’Malley gave his comprehensive renewable energy plan back in June. Sen. Bernie Sanders has a proven record in the Senate for fighting climate change, but has mostly kept quiet about it on the campaign trail. Finally Secretary Hillary Clinton has given her plan for renewable energy, but didn’t touch on fossil fuels. This is a problem for me.

I care about climate change, more so than the average person. It’s an issue that will affect us, and future generations. I want to hear more, I want the candidates address this issue and tell me what makes them the best on climate change.

There have been two Republican debates already, and we’re gearing up for the first Democratic debate on October 13. I hope climate change will be front and center on the debate floor. I don’t want to hear the candidates belittle the other side or worse, one another. I want to here about climate change and how it’s going to be fixed.

The debate is supposed to give candidates the chance to distinguish themselves from one another. It is easy for people to push climate change to the back of their minds and ignore it, but that needs to change. I’ll be eagerly watching the debate next to see how climate change is addressed.
