Stop Marginalizing Yourself

Last night I found out that Google fired one of their employees for speaking amongst his coworkers about the lack of diverse thought and the precedence placed by Google on “diversity of skin color and gender” over treating people as individuals. After learning about this story, I found out that some people at Google took a few days off because they viewed his opinions (of whom has a PhD in Biology from Harvard) as “violence”.
What utter nonsense.
It really bugs me that weak-minded people are allowed to dictate so many political conversations because of their obsession with self-victimization. They herald their weaknesses to shield themselves away from criticism, harsh truths, and/or simple dissenting ideas.
Now let’s take a moment to eliminate extreme elements from this argument. Opinions that are literally calling for violence, oppression, and suppression of speech are some things that could be eligible for consideration in regards to “violent speech”. But stating statistics about the generalities between the sexes and offering multitudes of different perspectives? How is this interpreted as oppressive speech? This is completely ridiculous.
So my solution is to the people on the Left who think they need to take days off after reading a memo about the generalities between men and women: Stop marginalizing yourself. Stop aligning yourself with an oppressed class and learn to cope with the cognitive dissonance that comes after ingesting information that goes against your narrative.
What this means is that, in order to grow as a human being, you’re going to have to stop doing the following things:
- Redefining words.
- Label Funneling: Filtering every opposing idea through funnels of racism, misogyny, sexism, *phobia, Nazism.
- Running away from discussions.
Redefining words
One of the highest offenders of this is misappropriating “racism”. Racism, in its most basic form, is the discrimination or hatred practiced against another person or group based on your or their skin color or race. When the New Progressives (i.e. “Regressives”) started redefining racism as “Power + Prejudice = Racism” then it started to promote a one-way dialogue in Western civilizations from minorities at White people. Hence the popular phrase “Black people can’t be racist against White people” — which is absurd at near the highest degree of absurdity.
The next offending words are “misogyny” and “sexism”. These terms are often used as a cudgel to silence opposing views when in talks about women or “gender gaps” in society. Careful: If you’re about to use statistics in a discussion about the “wage gap”, you are a “misogynist” in the eyes of a Regressive Leftist.
Finally, then there’s “*phobe” attached to everything else out there which you might disagree with a Regressive about. You got a problem with extremist portions of Islam? Congratulations: You’re an Islamophobe (yes, even if you’re Muslim). Then there’s the wombo-combo of using the word “Islamophobe” in order to insinuate that you’re also a racist. Pretty odd, seeing as a religion isn’t a race. Last I checked a lot of White ginger men have converted to Islam, so it’s definitely not a brown-skinned religion.
Solution: Respect the definition of words. The quality of our thoughts are best constituted by the quality of our language. When you start redefining words within our language, you destroy avenues of communicating thoughts.
Label Funneling
In regards to Regressive Leftists, they use a combination tactic to get you boiled down to 1 of 3 labels: Misogynist, Racist, *Phobe.
Just read any Twitter, Facebook, or news article discussion on the subject of women, minorities, or Islam. Look for a dissenting opinions (at least ones that aren’t legitimately vile or trollsome — ones promoting actual discussion) and you’ll quickly see these people shouted down by labeling them through common funneling tactics used by Regressives.
Like I said earlier, if you’re commenting on a discussion about women, if your opinion doesn’t align with current Feminist dogma, then you’re going to be labeled a “misogynist”. Black people, “racist”. Religion of Islam, “Islamophobe”.
Solution: Listen to people’s arguments before judging them. Yes, even if it makes you feel uncomfortable. Look for instances or examples of actual racism, misogyny, or phobia — and judge those people solely on their actions. Hear out those who wish to bridge a conversation, just as you would hope they would listen to your words. You might persuade some people to your side, and they might broaden your perspective.
Running Away
There’s an epidemic of echo chambers within many communities throughout the history of humanity. Since the introduction of social websites, we’ve been introduced to a new type of echo chamber, in where you can easily block, un-friend, or silence people on a number of top popular websites (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr, etc).
It’s become commonplace, in my experience, when engaging with people on the internet, where after I’ve responded to something someone else has said, their next response is to a) block me, or b) insult me, then block me. Or on Facebook, I’ve had people threaten me and/or un-friend me.
I will admit that there was one time I saw a lot of anti-gay propaganda being spewed by a Canadian friend of mine. I tried multiple times to open a discussion with him about why he was being so hateful. Often his responses were “faggots can die and burn in hell”. Well, sorry buck-o, that is outright hateful an we can’t be friends on that note. But if someone was genuinely unaware of why gay people needed equal treatment under the law (e.g. marriage laws, etc), then I would be more than happy to create a discussion, rather than un-friend them.
Solution: Decipher someone’s intent. Unroot the context of what they’re saying before barring any discussion with them. You can be a force for good in this world, but it starts with getting tough. It stops by marginalizing yourself.
So no matter what side of the political spectrum you’re on, stay tough, be civilized, cite your sources, and remain open but skeptical.
