Gender Discrimination In Breaking..?

A fellow subscriber Winnie Low writes to us:

*****

“Hi! I just started learning breaking recently. I am a girl. Is it OK for a girl to do the turtle freeze?”

*****

Yes, Winne.

It is okay for you to do the turtle freeze.

In fact, it is okay for you to do anything in breaking.

*gasps*

Shocking, isn’t it?

How can this be?

Anyway, jokes aside…

I actually have many female students who can do the turtle freeze.

As a matter of fact, they can do lots of freezes (and even powermoves too.)

So Winnie…

Don’t limit yourself.

And this goes for you too.

Don’t limit yourself.

Don’t give in to these limiting beliefs that are stopping you from doing certain things.

“I’m a girl therefore I can’t do this.”

“I’m too old therefore I can’t do this.”

“I don’t like this therefore I can’t do this.”

These are all excuses.

You are FREE to do anything you want in breaking.

That’s why it’s a dance.

That’s why it’s an artform.

You are free to express yourself in anyway you like.

There are no limitations.

There are no boundaries.

There are NO nothing.

And the last thing I want to share is…?

If there’s anybody who tells you you can’t do anything…

Especially if they poke fun at you because of your gender, age or whatever…

Prove them wrong.

Empower yourself.

This is the era of the breaker, not the bboy (or some gender discrimination thing).

All girls should be able and allowed to do whatever.

Likewise for the old, physically disabled etc.

Now…

Go forth and empower yourself.

Get the move you’ve always wanted to do.
