Breakfast and Vinyl-Sunday Morning

Standing in my kitchen, in the American Midwest, I put on my Darth Vader cooking apron and I turn on my electric oven to begin heating up my iron skillet. I turn on the coffee maker, set the option to “strong brew”, and hope that for some, unlikely, magical reason, it brews faster than normal. My wife is still asleep and the dog is currently my only companion. Well almost.

This morning I’m joined by the music of, in my opinion, one of the greatest song writers and performers, the band Queen. This morning I’m spinning the album “The Game” featuring classics as “Another One Bites The Dust” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”. I play my records on a Crosley portable record player that is connected to my TV’s sound bar. This record player, is perhaps the most used gift my wife has ever gotten me for Christmas.

Today, I’m just doing a good old fashioned, Sunday Breakfast. Eggs, sausage and toast. I like my eggs over easy so I can dip my toast in the yolk. My wife likes her’s fried or scrambled.

I always put a little water into my skillet first to heat that up, then I put my sausage in once that water has heated up a bit. I do this so my sausage doesn’t stick to the skillet. Once its heated I begin cooking my sausage. By the way, today I’m simply using, one of my favorite, quick go-to breakfast meats, Ekrich’s Smoked Sausage Maple Flavored Links.

I think playing vinyl while cooking helps experience all of our senses. I mean, don’t get me wrong, the sound of sizzling sausage or bacon is magical, playing a record to inspire the day, set the mood or just so the rest of the house can listen to something enjoyable helps get my Saturday or Sunday going.

Enjoy your breakfast. Be thankful for those that love you and keep listening! Follow my blog here: Breakfast and Vinyl
