How to Know If You Might Have a Problem with Food in Only 3 Minutes

It’s National Eating Disorders Awareness Week! Every year, the National Eating Disorders Association runs a whole week of awareness, accompanied by a theme and main message to get out to the world.

This year it’s that just 3 minutes can save a life. Did you know it takes under 3 minutes flat to get screened? Getting screened for an eating disorder can help you or someone you know realize that they may need expert help. Getting support can help save someone’s life and get them healthy.

Does it sound exaggerated to you that you could save your life or someone else’s by becoming aware of an eating disorder in order to get treatment?

It might until you know this:

Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder.

Catching an eating disorder early is essential.

The hope would be to catch it before it becomes a fully diagnosable eating disorder. The sooner you can get help, the better the chances of full recovery.

Awareness is the driving force for early interventions.

The more people that are aware of eating disorders and their signs and symptoms, the more those that may be struggling can get screened and get help ASAP.

Did you know that there are different types of eating disorders?

In my day-to-day life I find that people think that eating disorders mean you’re either starving yourself or making yourself throw up, but there are actually many other forms that eating disorders take.

If you’ve never taken an eating disorder screening before and you have the tiniest bit of curiosity about if you may have one, I encourage you to take the easy, confidential 3 minute screening right now!

(Real talk: It took me less than a minute and a half to complete. Yes, I timed it.)
