What puzzles me is the contention of people like Governor Pence that the legislation was not intended to allow businesses to discriminate, when any sensible person would ask, if it wasn’t meant to discriminate, why was it needed? And why is it that Governor Pence and the Republican legislature that passed the bill didn’t have the courage to continue defending it? It says a lot about the strength of their convictions, that they ran for cover as soon as they were exposed to ridicule. It also says that sunshine is the best and fastest cure for bigotry and that ridicule remains a powerful weapon.
