Yes, Poundland does sell overhead headphones. They come under the Viido brand and the packaging looks like that:

The head adjustment is metal, which is good:

Unfortunately I found myself mainly extending the head band enough so that it does not come in contact with my head, since these metal bits tend to bend inwards which is very uncomfortable.

The cord is relatively long but it looks cheap. I can’t imagine that a better one would have added much to the manufacturing costs, anyway that is what we get:

How is the sound?

Starting with Benjamin Clementine’s Cornerstone, the sound is pleasant enough from the big drivers although feeling muffled with little stage. Definitely listenable.

Moving on to Elle King’s Love Stuff, the drums are present and well balanced, however the experience is spoilt by a muddled definition of the bass line. My ears adapted and by the third song I did not notice the definition issues as much. As before, some higher notes are muffled and the staging is limited.

I thought the rendition of “American Sweetheart” was fine. On the other hand “Ain’t Gonna Drown” highlighted the issue with bass and I didn’t like listening to it.

Then on to LILLYWOOD’s The Fight, the punchy drums do a good job at backing the melody. That is probably the best choice of musical style for this set, with drum box beats, an electronic score and front vocals.

In a different genre, Bryan Adam’s “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” sounds all right. There is a little wobble in the background at times but the rest is fine.

I finished with Miles Davis Kind of Blue. It actually comes out quite nice, probably owing to the diameter of the drivers. The stereo separation is good (which doesn’t really depend on the headphones), and playing the saxophone, piano and percussions is a breeze for the Viido. There are small hiccups when Paul Chambers on the double bass gets busy.

Buying advice

These headphones have a lot to offer for such a low price. Although the band is uncomfortable to wear, the use of metal gives hope it is durable enough and the ear pads are fine. The cable might present a durability concern though.

If your music doesn’t rely too much on a complex bass line and you don’t mind the sound being a little muffled at places, the listening experience is surprisingly decent.
