2/1/24 — Lucy Terry

Although best known as the author of the first poem composed by an African American woman, Lucy Terry Prince was a remarkable woman whose many accomplishments included arguing a case before the Supreme Court. Lucy was stolen from Africa as an infant and sold to Ebenezer Wells of Deerfield, Massachusetts.

2/2/23 — John Lee Love

John Lee Love was an African American inventor, most known for his invention of the hand-cranked pencil sharpener, the “Love Sharpener.

2/3/24 — Minnie Cox

Minnie M. (Geddings) Cox (1869–1933) was an American teacher who was appointed the first Black postmaster in Mississippi.

2/4/24 — Willie James Howard

Known as Florida’s Emmett Till, Willie James Howard as lynched at the age of 15 after being accused of sending a love letter to a white man’s daughter… horrific.
