As a fan of professional wrestling, it can become easy to forget that the wrestlers themselves are more than the characters they portray on television weekly. At the end of the day, they’re real people who deal with the same issues as the fans that watch them. There is not greater example of this than the WWE Chronicle episode focusing on Bianca Belair.

To most fans, Belair is a very confident woman who now appears on Smackdown weekly. The episode of WWE Chronicle gives a behind the scenes look at her Smackdown debut in the fall of 2020 and her appearance in the 2020 Women’s Royal Rumble. This episode also shows Belair reflecting on her life before wrestling along with her battle with depression. It begins with some background on her life before wrestling. In high school, she competed in track and field before receiving an athletic scholarship. During this time in her life, she was dealing with depression which stemmed from her struggle with bulimia.

To help fight her depression, Belair reveals, for the first time, that she once checked herself into a psychiatric hospital. It could not have been easy for her to open up about such a dark time in her life but I applaud her for having the courage to do so. The “Bianca Belair” that fans see on tv has always been a confident and cocky character so it was a little surprising to hear this be revealed by her. This…
