How a physical rehab CAN attitude helped my business

I am just coming out of the other end of a physical injury that I incurred in June of 2018. It’s been a long haul. It’s hard to know just what could have landed me with the injury, although I have an idea, this article is more about the rehab protocol and how it required the same discipline that it takes to have a great business.

When you are injured in a sport you can handle it in two ways IMO. You can focus on what you can no longer do, and wallow in self-pity or you can focus on what you can do. I choose to focus on the CAN, not the CAN NOT.

  1. I can still run
  2. I can still bike
  3. I can still swim
  4. I can set aside 15–30 minutes each day and do my rehab exercises
  5. I can afford to see professionals to help me with the healing process
  6. I can commit to being injury free

This meant I had to realign my goals for the year, but it did not mean I had to stop.

When I started as a Virtual Assistant, I got caught up in the CAN NOT and it lead to me feeling overwhelmed, unfocused and made me feel like an imposter.

I came to this state of being because of the research I was doing on Virtual Assistants. Every business page or website I went to list all these amazing skill sets that I did not have. How was I going to get anyone to hire me? I CAN NOT compete. I am doomed. Insert Imposter Syndrome.

Then I decided to refocus and start treating my new business with the same focus I dedicate to my body when it is injured. I looked at what I CAN do.

  1. I CAN offer services that I am good at
  2. I CAN put a business plan together
  3. I CAN create a Facebook Business/LinkedIn Page
  4. I CAN join CAVA and some Virtual Assistant Groups on Facebook to interact with my peers
  5. I CAN put aside 15–30 minutes every day to learn more about Social Media and share what I learn with my followers.
  6. I CAN take one course a year that will add value to my skill set

and……I CAN go on and on.

Once I shifted my focus on the CAN and not the CAN NOT I started to feel more accomplished and realized that we are not all created equal in business and what I was offering was needed in the Virtual Assistant field.

Today I am getting more leads and am working with some amazing people helping them make their businesses the best that they can be by offering the skill sets that I am good at. I am adding to those skill sets each year with the CAN DO attitude.

Adopt a CAN DO attitude and you will succeed in whatever you are reaching for in your life.
