Hi Brennan,
Ayesha Talib Wissanji

The Taboo of Failure

If I’m going to be honest with you, Ayesha, I think you’re right that giving up is an act failure. At the same time, though, I do think it’s synonymous with letting go.

If you find yourself in a position in life, be it in a relationship or career, where you are in a place that isn’t good for you, then you have in some respects failed.

You’ve allowed yourself to get to a point where you’re unhappy, be it because of complacency or fear or something else. The less time spent there, the better.

When you are giving up, or letting go of this, you’re admitting failure. And I think that takes courage and strength. I also think people need to realize that we fail far more in life than we ever do succeed and that we are bound to make a mess of our life and squander the opportunities we’re given in it.

And that’s okay. I think giving up on something is vastly different than giving up in general. If you keep trying, then you haven’t really given up.
