Summary

  • Chaos parameter might produce uncertainty to prompt, using associative meanings
  • Character reference parameter limits chaos parameter from making the image totally deviate from the style of the reference.
  • More than value of 50 in chaos parameter starts to make considerable deviation and uncertainty from original prompt.
  • Chaos parametersometimes supplements and makes the result unexpectedly affluent.
  • Reverse-prompting, using chaos parameter, would be a effective learning tool!

Chaos Parameter

  • High chaos values will produce more unusual and unexpected results and compositions.
  • Chaos parameter is applied in the form of ‘— chaos <value>’ or ‘ — c <value>’, and the value ranges from 0 to 100

Permutation Parameter

  • If you want to use variables on specific number or texts of prompt phrases, you can use permutation parameter(“{}”).
  • Permutation parameter implements the job to the degree of how many values you input into the parameter, so jobs can be multiplied.
  • For example, a prompt having {1, 2, 3} will be implemented for each value, in total 3 times. If a prompt has {1, 2, 3} and {a, b}, the jobs will be implemented 6 times for the prompt based on variation of pairing the values.
  • To get more information, please refer to https://docs.midjourney.com/docs/permutations

In my case, the parameter will be used for experiment on Chaos parameter( — chaos), varying values.

Prompt in control

pop art style of Andy Warhol, a man happily laughing, the man is staring right upward, light pink and red color, the man is located at the left side — cref https://s.mj.run/Bnqi1o-yAc0 — ar 16:9 — stylize 700

Prompt in experiment

pop art style of Andy Warhol, a man happily laughing, the man is staring right upward, light pink and red color, the man is located at the left side — cref https://s.mj.run/Bnqi1o-yAc0 — ar 16:9 — stylize 700 — chaos {N,N,N}

  • As Basic plan allows for maximum 4 jobs with permutation, I will cohort the chaos prompt ofthree values with the inverval value of 10 each, total in 3 prompts — {10, 20, 30}, {40, 50, 60}, {70, 80, 90}.

Comparison — Original Prompt & Cohort

1. Cohort of {10, 20, 30} to Original

— chaos 10, 20, 30
Original
  • The arrangement of the man slightly changes: sometimes, the man is symetrically positioned to the right as opposed to original prompt.
  • The occurrence of an object which is not in the prompt, and the size and emphasis on it enlarges and gets bold.
  • The style especially the medium is consistent, but there is a little intelligible difference on color from 20.

2. Cohort of {40, 50, 60} to Original

— chaos 40, 50, 60
Original
  • The arrangement is getting different in obvious, even the expression of his face varies
  • The occurrence of an object is kind of reduced compared to cohort {10, 20, 30} (ironic)
  • The style starts to diverge from 50, the color contrast and saturation is getting extreme, and the model starts to ignore the style setting(pop art), generating photographic one.
  • Deviation of the focus and zoom for the subject is comparably consistent with the original prompt.

3. Cohort of {70, 80, 90} to Original

— chaos 70, 80, 90
Original
  • The arrangement is totally different
  • Variation of colors and tones are high
  • The depiction of the subject is highly varied, and they are exaggerated or dramatic along with the style itself
  • The occurrence of an object is not severe
  • Deviation of the focus and zoom is substantially violated, it shows just mouth or the upper body of the subject.
  • The style differs with each other, with varying brightness, contrast, saturation. Sometimes the enviornment or landscape is scenic like in 50.

To be honest,

This image, which has chase value of 40, is almost exactly what I wanted to produce with the original prompt.

Using ‘/describe’ command, I extracted the prompt and analyzed:

A man laughing out loud in a colorful pop art style with a pink and yellow color scheme and a happy expression in a facial closeup against a solid background with high contrast in the style of portrait photography with graphic design elements and a strong perspective with side lighting and bright colors where laughter is cheerful and full of vitality. — ar 128:71

  • emphasis for composition: facial closeup
  • clear relationship with subject and background: against a solid background
  • addition of style
    1. portrait photography with graphic design elements
    2. highlighting on specfic area with style

Takeaway & Interpretation

  • It seems that chaos parameter produces uncertainty based on associative meanings — ‘looking upward’ relates to ‘sky’ and sky makes associations with objects such as airplanes, birds, sun
  • It seems that character reference parameter restricts chaos parameter. Though the degree of color expression varied considerbly, but the color itself didn’t change. Chaos parameter only exaggerated the portrayal of subject, arrangement, environment and etc.
  • More than value of 50 in chaos parameter starts to make considerable deviation and uncertainty from original prompt ex. consistent settings but change of medium
  • The ‘uncertainty’ of chaos parameter produced a better image than the original prompt. It sometimes supplements and makes the result of prompt affluent.
  • Reverse-prompting, using chaos parameter, would be a effective learning tool!
